Massage at the Big Island Massage Network is NOT covered by your health insurance. That means that if your workers compensation plan does not pay for it, the bill will go to you.

Some federal work comp cases have limited funds for medical treatment. You need to understand how this relates to massage treatment with the Big Island Massage Network to avoid out of pocket expenses.

In a “short form closure” case, usually $1500 is available to cover medical expenses within 180 days of the accident. Bills are paid first come first served until the total is exhausted. After the fund is exhausted we can NOT use your health insurance as a backup payment because they will NOT pay for our services. Therefore we need to get a credit card on file to cover any bills that may be denied.

Due to the billing process, it can take up to a month for our bill to be reflected in your available total. For other medical services it can take much longer. As such, if you call OWCP and ask them how much funds are available, the number they give you will likely NOT reflect all the services that have been performed. You have to track the expenses yourself to make sure you don’t go over.

Even if a claim starts out as a short form closure, sometimes it will be re-opened on a more ongoing basis. In this case there is much less risk of a bill being denied. Please tell us if the status of your claim changes.
