Follow these steps to heal as fast as possible.

Be your own Advocate

Unfortunately, its easy to get lost in today’s medical system. If your doctor says they are sending us a prescription for massage, follow up with them if you don’t hear from us (In work comp claims, it must be approved by your adjuster first). We don’t want you to be waiting for us to call if your treatment plan never makes it to us. It will help your body to be in our healing hands as soon as possible after the major traumas have been addressed. Same goes for your Chiropractor or PT office.

Avoid Treatment Lapses

As you near the end of your prescription, if you think you will be needing more treatment, contact your doctor BEFORE the prescription ends. Often they need to re-evaluate you, and that means booking an appointment enough in advance that you can get a new prescription to pick up when the first runs out. At the end of each prescription, we will send our recommendations for further treatment to your doctor, but it often takes more than that to get more treatment. Only your doctor can tell you exactly what needs to happen to get a new treatment plan issued or approved.

Support your body’s healing process

The healing process takes a commitment from both you and your massage therapist. We are here to support your body’s healing but we can't do it all. Resting really is an important part of your healing process. Until you are fully feeling better, you have to assume that your body can do less than it could before the accident. We all have busy lives and it’s hard to take a break….but taking a break now will get you back to your life sooner.

Whatever you think you can do comfortably with your injury, do half of that. Stop before you feel tired, pain, or bad in any way. If you listen and don’t push through discomfort, the next day you’ll be able to do a little more. Things like getting good sleep, drinking lots of water, and eating healthy food really do help facilitate the healing process.

Car and work accidents cause trauma to the whole body that may include big injuries (like broken bones, and sprained ligaments) but also micro injuries that cause pain, muscle spasms, and limited movement. Your body starts to freeze up around the trauma to prevent further damage, and that results in other injuries as your body compensates. Your damaged muscles get stuck together in knots and cannot properly do their job of making bones move without causing pain. Massage helps by targeting the stuck tissue so that it releases and relaxes allowing for less pain and more mobility. It also increases blood and lymphatic flow allowing your injured tissues to get more nutrients and rid of their cellular waste as they repair themselves. The stress from the accident (and all its implications on your life) can be counterproductive to your body’s healing process and massage can help reduce this stress as well
